In the Cherokee language, Illahee means "heavenly world." This idea expresses the very best of what campers, counselors and staff create for a remarkable few weeks every summer.
For ninety years, Camp Illahee has given girls the opportunity to explore their interests, seek new adventures and forge friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

It is such a great feeling to see our daughter’s smiling face and hear the excitement in her letters.
In 1919, a young Transylvania County entrepreneur named Joe Tinsley bought a hundred acres of land in order to start a summer camp for girls. With the help of an idealistic educator named Hinton McLeod and his wife, Francis, Camp Illahee opened in 1921.
With this website, we've tried to bring a sense of the adventure, creativity, enthusiasm and fun that are the hallmarks of the Illahee experience.
