Being a cabin counselor is a lot like being a mom (you’re on call 24 hours a day) because you live with and are responsible for approximately 7 campers in their camp home and in their daily routine, i.e. wake-up, cabin clean-up, meals, hygiene, rest hour and bed-time. One day you might dress up for your cabin's air band performance; the next day you might reassure a nervous camper about to do a roll in kayaking. You will also teach one or more general or special skills with other members of our staff.
Responsible for the daily operation of activity; includes calendar planning, staff assignments, equipment and safety checks, program evaluation, etc. Staff in this role have expertise, experience, and appropriate certification in their activity area.
We hire 4-5 non-cabin riding staff that work directly with our riding director teaching lessons, caring for 25+ horses, and keeping the stables in top shape. We have a strong tradition in hunt seat equitation. We also teach vaulting (gymnastics on horseback). Staff are able to participate in a terrific five-day pre-camp riding workshop.
Kayak and rock climbing staff receive excellent pre-camp training and enjoy working with the finest equipment in the industry. The heads of each of these activities are experienced outdoor leaders and will help you fine-tune your teaching skills.
