There has been a lot going on in the Heavenly World since 2015 applications went “live” on August 3rd! All sessions with the exception of the Junior Session are filled with waiting lists! Illahee girls are registered from 29 states and 7 foreign countries. A trend toward older returning campers (who can’t imagine an Illahee-free summer) has led to a record number of Sparks and CITs and a 97% return rate in the June and July sessions. Illahee’s opening date is a week later for next summer, making the June session more widely available to camp families to reclaim its place as one of our most popular camp sessions.
Speaking of older girls returning to camp…..Illahee’s alumnae reunion will be held the weekend of May 29th when we’ll celebrate camp’s 95th anniversary! Post college-aged alumnae are invited! Registration and a reunion schedule will be posted online later this fall. Illahee alumnae, put May 29th on your calendar and plan to make your way back to Brevard! We’ll have cabins available for gals ready to be serenaded by bullfrogs and crickets.
The year-round camp directors have had some of their own adventures since camp! Gretchen and her family went on a two-week road trip that included stops in Chicago and the Great Lakes region of Michigan. Dave attended an intensive tennis camp in Florida where he worked out six hours a day with a pro (sounds like his usual day at camp), and Kris continued to enjoy having baby Mac settled in at home. The Strayhorns spent two weeks on a mission trip in Northern Thailand and helped lead a weekend “camp style” retreat for 200 area villagers. They took lots of ideas from the Illahee Olympics for relays and crafts during the weekend and enjoyed exploring some of the remote mountain areas.
Now that the crew is all back at camp, plans are being made for camper reunions and college visits. We all look forward to reconnecting with our Illahee family throughout the fall as we make plans for summer 2015, Illahee’s 95th , and the BEST SUMMER EVER!
