Camp Illahee celebrated its 99th birthday with the arrival of the New Year! We will be celebrating 100 years of camp with a reunion of alumnae in 2021 and look forward to unrolling plans for that celebration after this camp season.
After a holiday vacation with our families, we started our year with a camp reunion and movie show in our own backyard at Pinecrest where we gathered with Brevard and Asheville staff and campers for camp movies and dirt cake. Our largest reunion of the season was a pizza party later that week in Charlotte. If you haven’t checked out our most recent highlights video, take time to enjoy it now! It’s public for all to enjoy now that camp travels are over. Word on the street is that it’s Mary Lou’s “best video ever.”
Gretchen, Gardner, Laurie and Lindsey have turned their attention to staff recruiting and creating a great team for next summer. They are enjoying reconnecting with counselors and getting to know new staff through the interview process. New trails around camp and at the farm will be ready for the summer, and Tommy and Tim are putting finishing touches a costume room and backstage renovation. Who doesn’t love the chance to dress up at camp? Whether it’s Airband, County Fair or Drama Production, costumes are a big part of camp!
We can’t wait for the fun and adventure that are in store for summer 2020- sure to be the BEST SUMMER EVER! Happy New Year!
