It’s been a great weekend getting ready for camp! On Friday afternoon one of our kindest camp friends and neighbors Miss Nancy, had Kris, Caroline, Gretchen and me over for a “ladies lunch” and for a chance to preview the needlework projects that she is planning for the summer. True to her camp roots, she decorated our table around a pond theme- draped in a blue bandanna and covered with lily pads, frogs, turtles, red birds on branches and even caterpillars to adorn the straws in our iced tea glasses. All of these creatures will be on the project list for Sew Unique! In addition to the stitched items decorating the table, she showed us how to make “fish” bobby pins and how to decorate barrettes and headbands with cords that are tied into square knots (kind of an advanced lanyard). These are sure hits with the girls at camp – Nancy’s 5th summer at Illahee!
On Saturday, Bianca and I headed down to “horse country” – Camden, SC- to visit some equestrian centers that will be sending horses to Illahee for the summer. This will be Bianca’s 5th year as riding director and her 13th at Illahee. We have been fortunate that her year round position at Biltmore Estate’s Equestrian Center allows her the time to be at camp in the summer. Bianca and I had a great day visiting with instructors and watching the horses in action. Bianca even tested a few out! She couldn’t travel all the way to Camden with her helmet and boots and not take a ride! At the end of the day we selected eleven wonderful lesson horses that will be coming to camp this summer to join the herd that you all know and love. (Oh yes, don’t worry! Moon Pie will be back too!)
Our office is quiet on this Monday morning as we all review the activity sign-ups, camper information forms and ship store orders that came in over the weekend. It looks like everyone is getting excited and planning their summer. Caroline just completed that latest episode of Illahee Radio 192.1! This is the Disney edition so be sure to check it out when you are ready to liven things up!
