enjoying the great outdoors!
Hiking, rock-climbing, kayaking, and canoeing are but a few of the adventure-related activities campers can enjoy at Camp Illahee. Overnights, cookouts, and trail hikes are a key part of the Illahee experience for all girls. The 7th grade hike on Black Balsam trail is an Illahee tradition. We also offer daily sign-up trips to waterfalls and scenic mountaintops. Off-campus trips allow our campers to explore the exceptional rivers, rocks, and hiking trails of western North Carolina.
WilSkills
WilSkills, formerly Campcraft, is a special activity program for girls eager to explore the great outdoors. This activity focuses on wilderness skills such as orienteering, emergency first aid, fire-building, outdoor cooking, and others needed to explore the wilderness safely.
NATURE
Nature activities include working with small animals, hiking along Illahee’s trails and streams, and playing games and making crafts in Illahee’s nature facility.
high ropes course
Campers of all ages hang out in a big way on our fun and challenging Beanstalk climbing tower. This famous Camp Illahee landmark, home to our ropes course, is the ideal training perch for gravity-defying girls.
canoeing
Water, water everywhere! Campers learn basic canoeing strokes and then advance in their skills by playing games and practicing various techniques to safely and efficiently maneuver the canoes around our boating lake.
climbing
Campers of all ages can enjoy learning the nuts and bolts of bouldering and climbing both in camp on “the Beanstalk” and out-of-camp on a climbing day trip! When ready, campers can challenge their skills on famous rock monoliths such as Looking Glass Rock in Pisgah National Forest.
kayaking
Kayaking is also a big part of adventure sports! This activity is for all campers who want to make a splash this summer! Learn and practice skills at the canoe lake and, once ready, possibly take a day trip in such famous rivers as the Tuckaseegee, French Broad or Nantahala!
